DIY - Make Your Own Purse and our Scrap Book Paper Gift

Kids love having their own loot.
This is the perfect purse to store ALL of their lemonade stand money in!

You probably have everything you need right now
at home to make this fun hand bag!

Here is what you will need
Mod Podge
Cereal or cracker box
Scrapbook paper ( we used our very own Summer Soiree Paper)
Paint brush
Scissors
Ribbon
Hole Puncher

Now, let's get started...
1.Take box and cut off the top flaps, and fold the sides in
so that the long sides touch each other.

2. Tear scrapbook paper into small pieces

3.  Cover entire front of box with Mod Podge
This is fun and easy - perfect for little hands

4. Stick paper scraps to box and cover again with Mod Podge

5. Repeat this step for all 4 sides of the box.
It's OK if the paper overlaps, you can simply glue it down with more Mod Podge.

6.Let dry

7. Cut holes in top of bag for handles.
Then, hole punch the sides
thread ribbon through the holes on the sides.

and fill with treasure!

8. Have fun!

Here is just one of the papers we used to create this fun recycled handbag.
It's our gift to YOU
Click on the picture and save it and use it for your very own projects.
AND, if you do, please share it with us!

Finding the Beauty....in Everything

Yes, It's true...There is beauty in everything....
Stop and take a look around....
There is beauty right before your eyes....

Even the smallest moments in our lives
can hold some of the most wonderful gifts.
It's amazing what we can see, if we just take a moment to look!

Some beauty from my week
A cool breeze on a hot summer day - boy that felt good!
a hug from someone you love - thanks kids!
a summer thunderstorm - love them!
finding a starfish - yes, I did!
So, why not go out this weekend
and find the simple beauty in everything!
Come on and join me!

 On another note,

DIY - Let's Make Treasure Maps

Treasure Map

Oh these are just so much fun!
And I am very excited to share how we make our very own
Treasure Maps
here at my house -
Ok, so here's what you will need:

Supplies:
sheet of paper
warm water
tea bags/coffee grinds
baking dish
tin foil
cookie sheet
and a
waterproof pen

When I was a little girl, I made treasure maps leading to hidden buried treasure all of the time.
I loved creating them so much.. Making new paper look old...and crinkling the paper was so much fun!
So, inspired by our Summer Soiree Collection, I thought it would be perfect to include my own DIY instructions for making the perfect treasure map.

It's really a great afternoon project for the kids!
Start by taking a piece of paper, I use computer paper,
and tear the edges off...to give it that slightly aged and used look.
Just like a real pirate's map.
Argh!
Now let the fun begin! Grab a waterproof pen and  begin creating your own maps.
Here's where you can get SUPER creative

Don't forget "X" marks the spot of the buried treasure...
Just like Old Captain Blackbeard

When you have completed writing and illustrating your map, crinkle the paper up into a ball.

Next, it's time to soak your map in the tea and coffee mixture.

Fill the baking dish with enough water to cover the paper.
Then, place the tea bags and coffee grinds into the water.

Let it soak up the "coffee water"  in the baking dish for 10-20 minutes.
Or until you are satisfied with the color of your map.

Now, it's starting to look like a real,
vintage treasure map.

After , it's time to place your wet map on the foil lined baking dish in the oven.
Place the map on the baking sheet for 10 minutes at 170 degrees Fahrenheit.
Oven temperatures may vary, so you may have to add time to this.

When your map is done, it will be dry
and crisp and ready for a
real pirate adventure!

Have fun!

Just Like My Little Pirates!

Our Summer Soiree Collection - A Sneak Peak

Would you like to wish on a star....?

Over the past few weeks I have been hard at work at my new collection
Saylor's Summer Soiree...I had so much fun creating these new illustrations and I am just as excited to share them with
YOU all!

The colors are delicious shades of mint, aqua, tangerine
and my most favorite color of all
 PINK
The collection was inspired by my recent trip to the beach...in Marblehead, Massachusetts.
My kids and I wrote I LOVE YOU in the sand and spent the days gazing at the beautiful ships sailing by....
the ocean really does inspire!

So, today, I am sharing my note cards from the collection with you!

I have got lots more sea inspired goodies to share with you
including something I am VERY excited to show you!

Stay tuned!
The note cards are now available here, in The Shop, too!

Adjusting My Sails

I am sailing through this beautiful life enjoying every minute, but also learning that change is inevitable. Nothing lasts forever. Sometimes when you are least expecting it our world as we know it can be uprooted...changed...flooded by waves and changing tides, all in a blink of an eye. One thing I know, is change does make us stronger, though.
And,  I know many of you have heard this before...BUT, change can be good, change brings new unexpected gifts and treasures.

Sometimes we just have to adjust our sails when the wind changes unexpectedly...All we can do is keep sailing and keep going through this beautiful life!

And remember, "It is not the strongest of the species that survive, nor the most intelligent, but the one most responsive to change..."

I am off to sail my ship....and find the treasure!

Creative Tuesdays - Simply Darling

Simply Darling is the theme this week over at Creative Tuesdays
and I am thinking this little guy and his teddy fit the bill, quite perfectly!

I am very excited to say that I filled his pj's with one of my new patterns....
It came out a little bigger than I would have liked, but I am teaching myself
and I just don't have as much time to "play" on the computer
as I would like these days.... must get back to Camp Mom!

Enjoy!

Sunday Sketches - Let's Play

I have been pretty busy the last week playing " Camp Counselor" to my little Saylor.
Summer is in camp already but Saylor prefers what we call around our house, "Camp Mom."
We've had all sorts of fun creating our very own version of Camp.
Movies, parks, reading, painting and drawing. She is also quite the little artist...
She has been helping me create some great ideas for my Summer Collection coming out soon!

Today, I am excited to share with you all one of the projects that we worked on this week -
Our very own magnetic paper dolls - they really are so much fun and perfect for summer time playing!

So today, we are sharing our version of Saylor the Mermaid. Simply print the picture below onto magnetic paper and you can have some fun swimming and collecting shells in lots of fancy new mermaid clothes!

Now, Let's Play - And, isn't that what summer's should be for, anyway?

Save the above picture.
print . enjoy. play.
See you at Sunday Sketches, here !
