Trick Or Treat - Popcorn Balls

Popcorn Balls are the perfect snack for Halloween guests and Trick-or-Treaters.
These treats are so delicious and easy to make!

Thanks to my friend Kristin for sharing this recipe with us.

6 Cups of hot air popcorn
1 Cup of Candy Corn
1/4 Cup Melted Butter
1/4 Teaspoon Salt
10 - oz bag of marshmallows

Cooking oil/spray

Combine popcorn and candy corn in a large bowl.
Melt 1/4 cup of the butter in a large pan over medium heat; Stir in the salt and the marshmallows. Reduce the heat and cook for 5-7 minutes until the marshmallows melt and the mixture is smooth, stirring frequently.

Pour marshmallow mixture over the popcorn and stir well to coat.
Spray your hands with a bit of cooking spray.

*The mixture is quite sticky so you don't want it sticking too your hands when you are shaping them.
Next, shape the popcorn mixture into 12 - (2 inch) balls with your hands.

The mixture can be hot - so if you are doing this with your kids allow the mixture to cool a bit before they handle the popcorn and melted butter mixture.

Simple and delicious.
Have fun and enjoy. Do you have any favorite homemade Halloween Treats?

Sunday Sketches - Learning to Dance in the Rain

Hello and Good morning.
It's early here along the East Coast and we are
in full Hurricane Sandy preparation mode!
It's heading right for our area as a Category 1 Hurricane.
The skies are dark gray and the wind is already starting to kick up!
The leaves are blowing and swirling around - Sandy is on her way.

But, we've got our generator, gas and plenty of water and food.

And for now, we wait...and learn to dance
in one more of life's many storms....

I am sharing this sketch with you and all of my friends at Sunday Sketches.

For those here along the East coast with me, stay safe!
xx

Creative Tuesdays - Bottle

Message in a bottle....
It's Tuesday and it's time for Creative Tuesday's.

The theme this week is "Bottle"
I have always wanted to find a secret message in a bottle...
Maybe a long lost love note from across the Atlantic.
 Maybe a pirate's hidden treasure map or a sailor's long lost dreams...Well, I haven't found one yet....
So for now, just a simple
Thinking of You
message from me to you!

How about you?
Have you ever sent a message to someone in a bottle?
Have you ever found one washed up along the shore?

On Being Kind to All Things

This is a special illustration that I designed for my daughter's teacher, Mrs. Lewis.
Each year Mrs. Lewis receives duck eggs from her sister's farm. She brings them in for the class to observe and keeps them safe and protected in an incubator under the careful watch of her students. Then, one magical day, the eggs begin to crack, and the gift of life is hatched right before the students' eyes. The students get to name the ducks.

 It's an amazing experience.

The children care for the ducklings throughout the next couple of days, and then Mrs. Lewis brings the ducklings back to her sister's farm where they will live and continue to grow. She shares their life's journey as they get bigger with her students via photos and videos of "their" ducks.

It's something that she does every year.  She doesn't get any extra credit, extra pay or special recognition for this. It something she does out of the simple kindness of her heart...because she cares about her students...I find that so inspiring!

So, this is my Thank You to her!
Thanks Mrs. Lewis!

Our Choices....

It is our choices that show us who we really are....
don't you think?
I really do love this quote from JK Rowling.

So what if we are not the BEST at every single little thing...
If we choose to live life a certain way and make good choices
in our well being and meaningful relationships,
life CAN be FULL of positive rewards!

Go ahead, give it a try!

Sunday Sketches - For Clara

Hello!
I was recently asked to create a Nutcracker inspired holiday card for a family.
They have a little girl who adores the story of Clara and The Nutcracker.

I was excited about this project, because it is also one of my favorite holiday stories!
I love going into New York to see
George Balanchine's Nutcracker performed by the
New York City Ballet and visiting the Land of Sweet!

It's truly magical!

So, today I am sharing the beginnings of what will eventually become the card!
I am also sharing this with Sunday Sketches, here.

For those of you that read the blog post from yesterday,
we did get a new leaf blower!
So, today we will be out playing in the leaves.
Enjoy your Sunday

Even though Summer is 10 she still loves getting a handmade note from mom!

So today, why not print out this pumpkin above, and slip it into someone's day...

Pretty in the Kitchen

I love to cook, I really do. When I am cooking in my kitchen I always wear an apron. Seriously, if I don't, I am usually COVERED from head to toe in whatever I am doing. Even if it's just washing the dishes....Water and soap everywhere...
Cookies? Forget it!
I am covered in flour.

So, thanks to my kids, they bought me my first apron for Christmas a few years back and I have become addicted to wearing them when I am in my kitchen...
These are my top favorites for October and they are ALL from Etsy...
I love them all so much, I might have to buy all three....

Love the orange and black and ric rac detailing. Apron from Loverdoversclothing

Creative Tuesdays - Breaking New Ground with Columbus

"There's something about taking a plow and
breaking new ground ...It gives you energy." K.Kensey

New adventures and experiences can give us energy...don't you think? I do!
Sometimes all we may need is an uncharted course, a little imagination and a dream...
and we can set sail on  a path of new adventure and possibility.

On another note, It's Columbus Day here and I wanted to create
a simple depiction of this historical character.
 So here he is!
The theme for Creative Tuesday's is
Breaking New Ground.... and so I thought, what better way to portray the theme
than an illustration of Mr. Christopher Columbus?

I do hope you enjoy it

Halloween Cards

Inspired by a vintage Halloween card I had saved from many years ago,
I wanted to come up with a simple illustration for
a client who wanted her own Halloween cards to pass out this year.

This is what we came up with...
I love the ruffled collar!

How about you? Do you send Halloween cards?
My grandmother used to send me cards for Halloween and I always loved it!
